The Islanders take down the Sabres by a score of 3-1 to extend their point streak to seven games. Due to COVID-19 the Sabres hadn’t played a game for 15 days before tonight. Great team win from the boys in orange and blue. Anders Lee gets the scoring going late in the 1st period and a goal from J.G. Pageau comes less than two minutes later. Islanders Forward Mat Barzal tallied an assist on Anders Lee’s goal to continue his point streak to nine games.
“When you start getting results, it gives the group confidence. We’ve been going pretty good but at the same time, things can change in a hurry. You gotta stay on top of it and keep doing the things we need to do to give ourselves success.” -Josh Bailey
Add paragraph text here. The Sabres power play going into tonight was 30.8% and that was shown in tonight's game with an incredible power play performance and a bullet of a PPG from Victor Olofsson. Brock Nelson scored a power play goal in the middle of the second to give the Isles a 2 goal cushion. With the Nelson PPG that makes the Isles power play 4/5 in their last 5 games. Also on the Nelson PPG Oliver Wahlstrom gets the secondary assist which is his 1st NHL assist and his 2nd NHL point.
“It’s having trust and commitment from everyone up and down the lineup… You can see when we’re connected, feeding off each other and reading off each other. Making good plays, whether it’s a simple play or taking a chance." -Brock Nelson
The 3rd period did not feature any scoring on either side. The Isles completely shut down the Sabres in the 3rd period, who didn’t even get a shot on goal. This isn’t out of the blue though, the Islanders have been shutting down teams in the 3rd period this season. Just five 3rd period goals allowed in the 13 games so far this season. Former Islander Johnny Boychuk watching the game with Lou Lamoriello, that’s what we love to see. Seeing Lou take Johnny as his “right hand man” of sorts is really incredible to see. After a difficult start to the season, Josh Bailey registers 2 assists tonight on the Lee and Nelson goals. The Islanders next game will be a rematch against Buffalo tomorrow at 7pm.
