After losing two straight games to the Boston Bruins and scoring only 6 goals in their last 5 games, the Islanders have now won two straight.
Yes, losing two games in a row isn’t too bad but the Islanders have been just playing off on all cylinders which made the MassMutual East division way tighter than it was all season long. The Isles dropped to 3rd place but are now tied for first. That is how quickly things can change.
Last night, the Islanders knew they needed a strong game after a win on Sunday night. The Isles did just that and played a full 60-minute game and came out with a 6-1 victory over our crosstown rivals.
The Islanders will open a three-game set with the Washington Capitals on Thursday night, these games are huge for both teams. Both teams are tied for first place, the Islanders NEED to win at least 2 out of the 3 games.
Islander fans want to see Oliver Wahlstrom back in the lineup after he was a healthy scratch last night against the Rangers. That was the correct move that Trotz made, Wahlstrom has not gotten on the scoresheet in 9 games and Michale Dal Colle has made more of an impact than he has recently. I would not expect Wahlstrom to get back in the lineup for Thursday’s game.
The Islanders have 10 regular-season games left:
VS. WSH
VS. WSH
@ WSH
@ NYR
VS. NYR
@ BUF
@ BUF
VS. NJD
VS. NJD
@ BOS
The Isles need to finish the season off strong and win the MassMutual east division. Out of the 10 games left, 4 of them are against the top 4 teams in the MassMutual east division.
